Cataract Surgery Options

Cataract surgery provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reset your vision and choose how you would like to see your world! At See Vision Eye Institute, we will learn about your lifestyle and how you use your vision every day. Dr. Gorscak use this information, along with advanced diagnostic testing, to assess your candidacy for the Vision Package that is best suited to meet your goals.

If you have a qualifying cataract, See Vision Eye Institute will file your Medicare and / or commercial insurance for your covered benefits to remove the cataract and replace it with an intraocular lens. You are responsible for co-payments, deductibles, and/or co-insurance associated with your covered benefits.

Cataract Packages

Medicare and commercial insurance do not pay for services that increase independence from glasses. These are considered refractive procedures and are not submitted to insurance. See Vision Eye Institute provides three packages to help you achieve your desired level of independence from glasses, and financing options to make your selection affordable.

Total Vision

Our Total Vision package is designed for patients who are looking for maximum freedom from glasses. With our Total Vision package, Dr. Gorscak will design a unique surgical plan to maximize vision at all ranges: distance (road signs, TV), intermediate (computer, car dashboard), reading (phone, book or watch). In order to achieve this, Dr. Gorscak will provide a comprehensive surgical plan that may include some or all of the following:

  • Laser cataract surgery
  • Specialized astigmatism correcting techniques (if needed)
  • Advanced technology multifocal lens, designed to optimize range of vision
  • Postoperative enhancement (if needed)

Total Vision also includes:

  • Advanced preoperative testing and analysis
  • Postoperative refraction testing
  • Postoperative eye drops

Light Adjustable Lens

Our LAL package redefines post-operative cataract care by offering the ability to personalize and fine-tune your vision after LAL implantation. Dr. Gorscak will create a customized surgical plan to optimize your visual outcome, which may include:

  • Laser cataract surgery
  • Light Adjustable Lens implant
  • Specialized plan to correct astigmatism
  • UV light enhancements that customize your vision

Light Adjustable Lens also includes:

  • Advanced pre-operative testing and analysis
  • Post-operative refraction testing for precision
  • UV-protective glasses to protect the LAL until the final lock-in session
  • Post-operative eye drops

Custom Distance Vision

Our Custom Distance Vision package is designed for patients who wish to see as clearly as possible at distance, and are willing to wear glasses for close and intermediate work. Patients who opt for our Custom Distance Vision package will require astigmatism correction to achieve their best distance vision. Dr. Gorscak will design a customized surgical plan that may include some or all the following to maximize distance vision:

  • Laser cataract surgery
  • Specialized astigmatism correcting techniques
  • Astigmatism correcting intraocular lens
  • Monovision targeting (for previous contact lens patients)
  • Postoperative enhancement (if needed)

Custom Distance Vision also includes:

  • Advanced preoperative testing and analysis
  • Postoperative refraction testing
  • Postoperative eye drops

Basic Vision

With Basic Vision, our patients will achieve clearer vision as a result of removing the cataract and replacing it with an intraocular lens. Glasses will be needed to achieve best vision for near and distance after surgery. Basic Vision includes:

  • Manual cataract surgery
  • Monofocal (single focus) intraocular lens

*Patients who choose Basic Vision will be responsible for postoperative refraction fees and postoperative medications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during my Cataract Surgery consultation?2024-03-21T11:20:19-04:00

You can expect a thorough evaluation of your eye health and vision during your cataract surgery consultation at See Vision Eye Institute. The consultation typically includes reviewing your medical history, a visual acuity test, a refraction, a measurement of intraocular pressure, a slit-lamp examination, and a dilated eye examination. Your cataract will be assessed, and Dr. Gorscak will discuss treatment options. If Dr. Gorscak determines cataract surgery is necessary, we will take specialized measurements and perform imaging tests to determine the best options for your vision. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns you may have about the procedure and its outcomes.

Will I need someone to drive me home after my eye procedure?2024-03-21T11:52:30-04:00

Because you will receive medication to relax you, we require you to have someone drive you home after your eye procedure.

What is the recovery time for eye surgery?2024-03-21T11:55:00-04:00

Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery performed. We will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions and what you can expect during the recovery period.

How do I prepare for Cataract Surgery?2024-03-21T12:01:58-04:00

Prior to cataract surgery, you’ll have a pre-operative appointment to measure your eye and discuss IOL options. We will also work with your primary care physician to provide medical clearance for your surgery. It’s important to follow all pre-surgery instructions given by your surgeon, which may include fasting or avoiding certain medications.

How long does the clarity from Cataract Surgery last?2024-03-21T12:18:09-04:00

Your new intraocular lens is permanently placed inside your eye. The artificial IOL does not age like the natural lens, so you will not develop cataracts again. However, most patients experience a gradual clouding of the capsular bag that holds the intraocular lens. This is easily treated with a simple laser procedure.

Will I need glasses after Cataract Surgery?2024-03-21T12:24:22-04:00

It depends on which package you choose. Our cataract surgery packages are entirely personalized to your preferences so you have the freedom to select the vision outcome that aligns with your needs. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your vision goals and IOL options to customize your treatment plan.

What is the recovery like after Cataract Surgery?2024-03-21T12:26:55-04:00

Post-surgery, you may experience mild discomfort and blurry vision, but many patients report clear vision within several hours to a few days. Your eye may completely heal within eight weeks. Your doctor will provide specific aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up visits to monitor your recovery.

What can I expect during Laser Cataract Surgery?2024-03-21T12:30:31-04:00

During the laser cataract surgery procedure, your eye will be numbed with eye drop anesthesia. The clouded lens will be fragmented and removed, and a new, clear IOL will be implanted. Our patients often tell us this is a relaxing experience and they can’t wait for the surgery on their fellow eye! The process is generally quick and painless.

Is Cataract Surgery safe?2024-03-21T12:36:44-04:00

Yes, cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful surgical procedures performed today. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved, but these are minimal and our team is equipped with the expertise to ensure the highest standards of safety.

How do I know if I need Cataract Surgery?2024-03-21T12:42:35-04:00

Typically, cataract surgery is recommended when cataracts cause enough vision loss to interfere with your daily activities. An ophthalmologist at See Vision Eye Institute can assess your vision and recommend if and when surgery is necessary.

What makes advanced Laser Cataract Surgery different?2024-03-21T12:44:07-04:00

Advanced Laser Cataract Surgery employs laser technology for precision, enhancing safety and outcomes compared to traditional methods.
